The owner of E-C Records in Fort Lauderdale, Charles Freeman, was found guilty of obscenity on October 3,
1990, for selling the
2 Live Crew album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be.” He sold the album two days after a federal court ruled that its content was obscene. Freeman had originally been arrested on June 8 after selling the recording to an undercover police officer. He was later fined $1,000, which he was ordered to donate to a local elementary school specializing in arts education. In
1993, the conviction was overturned.
