English Decca Records destroyed 25,000 copies of Ray Peterson's song “Tell Laura I Love Her” because it considered the song too tasteless and vulgar. A rival label subsequently released a cover version by Ricky Valance, which reached No. 1 on the UK chart, while Peterson's original version reached No. 7 in the U.S.
