American bassist Bob Birch died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 56 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had been a member of Elton John's band since 1992 and also worked with Bryan Adams, Lionel Richie, George Michael, Eric Clapton, B. B. King, Phil Collins and The Doobie Brothers.
