Little Richard performed at the Cotton Club in Lubbock, Texas, where local Buddy Holly was among the audience. Little Richard's song „Rip It Up“ was at No. 37 on the Billboard Top 100 at the time and later climbed to No. 17, where it competed with the version by Bill Haley and His Comets.
