Scottish guitarist and songwriter Ricky Gardiner was born. He was a member of Kingbees and The System, with whom he formed Beggars Opera in 1969. He played lead guitar on David Bowie's 1977 album "Low" and worked with Iggy Pop on "Lust for Life" that same year, co-writing the song "The Passenger" with him.
