Description

Members of Lynyrd Skynyrd who survived the 1977 plane crash reunited at the Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville and performed for the first time under the name "Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band" as part of a series of concerts marking the 10th anniversary of the crash, which killed singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines. The enthusiastic response from fans led to the band's permanent reunion and the recording of new material.

    Roadrunner Records released Lynyrd Skynyrd's fourteenth studio album “Last of a Dyin' Breed” in the US. Guitarist John Lowery, better known by his stage name John 5, contributed to several songs. The album reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200, No. 3 on the Top Rock Albums chart and No. 83 in the UK.

    Photographer Larry Philpot filed a lawsuit in federal court in California against Lynyrd Skynyrd for using his copyrighted photograph of Jerry Lee Lewis without permission. Philpot claimed that the band removed the copyright information and used the photograph at the first twenty-two shows of their farewell tour. The lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice shortly after it was filed, suggesting that the parties reached a private settlement.
