Radiohead won the “Best Act in the World Today” award at the Q Awards in London for the third consecutive time. Q magazine had criticized their album “Hail to the Thief,” and the band did not attend the ceremony.
Radiohead began a series of 13 concerts at Darien Center in New York as the opening act for Alanis Morissette. During the tour, they tested new songs including “No Surprises” and “Paranoid Android,” which later appeared on the album OK Computer.
Radiohead’s official website crashed after the band announced that their album “In Rainbows” could be ordered through their own website. Fans could pre-order the digital version for any price they chose, while a special physical package costing £40 contained two CDs, two vinyl records, artwork, and booklets.
The group On A Friday, later known as Radiohead, performed at the Jericho Tavern in Oxford, England. The members had met while attending Abingdon School, and the name On A Friday referred to their usual rehearsal day in the school music room.
