Cher began a two-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “Half-Breed,” her second solo single to top the chart. The song was written for her by Mary Dean, Al Capps and Snuff Garrett; it did not chart in the UK and later received a gold certification in the U.S.
The album “Closer to the Truth” reached No. 3 in the United States, which according to the source was Cher's highest position among her solo albums. She achieved a higher position only in 1965 with Sonny Bono, when the album “Look at Us” reached No. 2.
Cher’s spokesperson rejected a tabloid report claiming that the singer was suffering from a serious illness and was close to death, dismissing the report as “dog shit.” In early 2017, Cher began the successful “Classic Cher” residency in Las Vegas.
