Madonna suffered three broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken arm in a fall from a horse at her country estate, Ashcombe House. The accident occurred on her 47th birthday.
German prosecutors announced that they had decided not to open an investigation into Madonna after she performed a controversial mock crucifixion scene during a concert on August 20.
Madonna's “This Used to Be My Playground” became her tenth U.S. No. 1 hit. It reached No. 3 in the UK and was from the film “A League Of Their Own”. The song also reached No. 1 in Canada, Italy, Mexico and Sweden.
Madonna's provocative music video for “Erotica,” containing footage from the making of her book “Sex,” premiered on MTV. The video was broadcast only three times before being banned.
