Pearl Jam fan Mark Zupan crowd-surfed his way to the stage in a wheelchair during the band's concert at Fort Lauderdale Stadium. He later became captain of the US wheelchair rugby team and appeared in the film Murderball.
Pearl Jam released their fourth studio album “No Code” through Epic Records. The album debuted at No. 1 on the US album chart, but was not as commercially successful as their previous three albums and quickly fell down the chart.
Pearl Jam’s animated music video for “Do The Evolution”, their first music video since 1992, premiered on MTV. The band did not appear in the video, and the animation was created by Todd McFarlane.
The video for “Jeremy” won four awards at the MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year. The group subsequently stopped making music videos until 1998.
Pearl Jam released their debut album “Ten” through Epic Records. The album became a cornerstone of grunge and contained the hits “Alive”, “Even Flow” and “Jeremy”. In the USA, it received a 13-times platinum RIAA certification, corresponding to 13 million copies sold, while more than 15 million copies were sold worldwide. Initially, the album was not a major success, but with the rise of grunge it reached No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 the following year.
