Neil Diamond reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “Cracklin' Rosie,” which remained at the top for one week. It was his first number-one single as a performer. The song was also a breakthrough in the UK, where it reached number three, and it entered the Top 10 in eight other countries. Diamond had previously achieved success primarily as a songwriter, including with “I'm a Believer” for The Monkees.
