Fleetwood Mac release their twelfth studio album, Tusk, through Warner Bros. Records. The experimental double album follows the success of 1977’s Rumours. According to the supplied record, recording costs more than $1 million. The album reaches No. 4 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the UK; one record also lists it at No. 1 in New Zealand. The source says more than four million copies are sold worldwide. Its release is brought forward after RKO radio stations obtain a leaked copy and begin playing it.     During halftime of the USC vs. Arizona State football game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and Mick Fleetwood performed together with the USC Trojan Marching Band. Nicks twirled a baton, Fleetwood played the bass drum, and Buckingham conducted the band. The 112-member USC marching band had participated in the recording of “Tusk,” and Fleetwood Mac subsequently presented the band with a platinum record for its participation in the recording.

It was the band's first album with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. It produced the hits “Over My Head,” “Rhiannon” and “Say You Love Me,” later sold more than five million copies in the US and was certified nine-times platinum. It was the first of three Fleetwood Mac albums to reach number one in the US.
