American music producer and journalist
Jerry Wexler died at the age of 91 from heart failure. He significantly influenced the development of modern rhythm and blues and worked on
Aretha Franklin's “Respect”,
Wilson Pickett's “In the Midnight Hour” and
Bob Dylan's album Slow
Train Coming. He also worked with
Ray Charles, Percy Sledge, Solomon Burke,
Led Zeppelin and
Dire Straits. As a
Billboard journalist, he helped establish the term “rhythm and blues” in
1949 as a replacement for the then-used term “Race Records”.
