- Cilla Black, born Priscilla White, signed a management contract with The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein. After a mistake in the music magazine Mersey Beat, she began using the surname Black, and Epstein insisted that she keep the stage name.
- Jerry Lee Lewis's contract with Sun Records expired, and he subsequently signed with the Smash label.
